There has been much speculation about who would end up buying the huge former Fairway Market site on 12th Avenue in West Harlem, and now there's finally an answer: Columbia University.
The 2.5 acre property, which includes the grocery chain's former store, warehouse and parking lot, just sold for $84 million, according to the Commercial Observer.
The site is wedged between Columbia's growing Manhattanville campus and the Hudson River, meaning the campus could now stretch all the way to the waterfront.
The report says there were many interested parties, including "developers of industrial, film studio and life sciences properties."
No plans for the site have been announced yet.
