A downtowner for quite a while, I surprised myself a while back by moving uptown–way, way uptown, where the numbered streets have three digits. I knew astonishingly little about my new New York City neighborhood (except that it was a refuge from the crazy prices found further south). But I was soon thrilled to discover a place that blended the gritty spirit of the East Village, the beauty of the West Village, and a neighborliness that seems to have vanished from the rest of the city ages ago. As my roots grow deeper in Upper Manhattan, join me in exploring and sharing what makes living here worth it.​
