3 New Supermarkets Are Set to Open in Harlem. Here's Where.

Three new supermarkets are about to expand where Harlemites can shop for groceries.

Fine Fare is taking over the old Rite Aid location at 2170 Frederick Douglass Boulevard and 117th Street, and has a "Now hiring" sign in front of the still-under-construction space.

A worker on site last week said doors would open on September 1.

Fine Fare is a group of more than 60 independently-owned and -operated supermarkets in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Notably, the FDB location will be just one block down from a Lidl and one street away from a CTown on W 116th Street.

City Fresh Market, which has three other locations in East Harlem and even more throughout the city, is coming to the ground floor of a new 28-story rental building at 1440 Amsterdam Avenue near W 131st Street.

Signs for the supermarket have been up for almost a year, but a worker last week said it should open in one to two months.

Finally, Urban Market of Sugar Hill is moving into the ground-floor space at 700 St. Nicholas Avenue and W 145th Street, a former Capital One bank branch.

A worker there said the opening would be in a month or two.

Urban Market is a brand of upscale grocery stores that are part of the Key Food cooperative.
