After three years of renovations, the George Washington Bridge's Southwalk has reopened as a bike-free path for pedestrians.

It follows similar construction work on the bridge's Northwalk, which will now be primarily intended for cyclists.

The overhaul of the south walkway, part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's $2 billion "Restoring the George" program, includes wider, ADA-accessible on-ramps and better lighting and signage, among other safety improvements.

As with the previously renovated Northwalk, there are new viewing platforms on either side of the bridge.

Walking on the south path also gives pedestrians beautiful views of the downtown Manhattan skyline.

The entrance for those coming from Manhattan is on W 178th Street and Cabrini Boulevard in Washington Heights.
