New York City is cancelling its contract with the Trump Organization to run Lasker Rink
The uptown skating rink agreement is part of three the city is ending in response to the Capitol riots last week. The Trump Organization runs the Central Park Carousel, two skating rinks in Central Park (including Wollman Rink), and the Ferry Point Golf Course.
“The President incited a rebellion against the United States government that killed five people and threatened to derail the constitutional transfer of power,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio in a statement. “The City of New York will not be associated with those unforgivable acts in any shape, way or form, and we are immediately taking steps to terminate all Trump Organization contracts.”
The Lasker Rink contract was set to expire in April, but this cancellation would take effect in 30 days.
Since these contracts are expiring in April, the termination is just performative art. What's the point? The main news is the city isn't renewing the contracts as the Trump organization expected.
