Uptown links: Harlem's first Shake Shack has an opening date, Insomnia Cookies is coming to 125th St

Harlem's first Shake Shack is opening on Tuesday, December 12

• The Shake Shack at 1 W 125th Street finally has an opening date: Tuesday, December 18. The first 100 customers in line when doors open at 11 a.m. will receive free hot chocolate and Shake Shack merch. [Patch]

• Insomnia Cookies is the latest food chain coming to 125th Street. [Real Estate Weekly]

• Now Inwood has a new historic district, too. Officially called the Park Terrace West – West 217th Street Historic District, the area is comprised of 15 two-story homes with Craftsman-style details. [6sqft]

• Tuskegee Airman Wilfred DeFour–a man who Representative Adriano Espaillat called a "Harlem legend"–died earlier this week at age 100. Just last month DeFour was honored during a ceremony to rename a Harlem post office to Tuskegee Airmen Post Office Building. [Daily News]

• A brownstone on Edgecombe and a treeless stretch of Lenox were two of the Harlem-that-still-looks-like-Harlem locations used to shoot "If Beale Street Could Talk," the new Barry Jenkins movie based on the 1974 novel by James Baldwin. [NY Post]

• See KiKi Layne and Stephan James, the two stars of "If Beale Street Could Talk," model fashion "steeped in seventies nostalgia" around Harlem. [Vogue]

• Some of this year's "Reasons to Love New York" include "a really weird street" in Washington Heights (Lin-Manuel Miranda's pick), the United Palace Theater (novelist Victor Lavalle's go-to) and Paul Deo's Planet Harlem mural (writer Garnette Cadogan's fave). [The Cut]

• Rezoning and tax breaks are set to transform East Harlem. “The epicenter of redevelopment is going to be around Lexington Avenue and 125th Street,” real estate broker John McGuinness told Bloomberg, calling it "probably the most neglected area around an express train in all of Manhattan.” He also believes the old Pathmark will one day turn into a Trader Joe's or Fairway.
