Following a long renovation and expansion, Montefiore Square in West Harlem is finally open.

The triangular Broadway park features a new terraced lawn lined with benches, a small plaza with a booth and water fountain, plus newly-planted saplings throughout.

The revamp has also tripled the size of the square by expanding into what was once Hamilton Place between Broadway and W 138th Street.

Construction has been underway since the fall of 2016, when the city first began major improvements to the underground infrastructure, including the installation of new water mains.

In 2019 the city officially announced plans to renovate and expand Montefiore Square itself.

Now that all of the work is complete, the larger space could be used for community festivals, performances and green markets.
