A select number of city pools will be reopening in Harlem in the coming weeks—Wagner pool this Friday, and two others on August 1—but there’s one local oasis that’s already here to help with the current heat wave: the outdoor pool at Riverbank State Park.
Because it follows state (not city) park rules, the pool has been open since July 3.
It's tucked away in the southwest section of the 28-acre park, the rare urban pool surrounded by grass and with views of the Hudson River.
There are two daily recreational swim sessions: 11am-2pm and 3pm-6pm. Tickets—$1 for children, $2 for adults—go on sale 30 minutes before each swim session. (Email the park directly to ask about lap swimming.)
Due to the coronavirus, the pool's locker rooms are currently closed and visitors are required to wear face coverings when they're not swimming.
The pool will remain open through Monday, September 7, so there's still plenty of time to cool off.
